Murray’s Craft Brewery and Port Stephens Winery

Known locally as “Bob’s Farm”, this quirky little property has been named Australia’s “Brewer of the Year” and shares it’s home with the region’s oldest winery, Port Stephens Winery. With a rich history in brewing and wine-making throughout rural New South Wales, Murray’s Craft Brewery is a deliciously simple and welcoming microbrewery that aims to mix quality craft beer, seasonal food and local and regional wines with great hospitality.

Not only is there a microbrewery and a cellar door, but the premises also boasts a pretty popular restaurant, The Brewery Restaurant which serve a modern Australian backyard menu with a twist – think grilled burgers, salt-and-pepper squid, tapas or wood-fired pizzas. Some selected items are also made with their locally brewed beer.

The Brewery Restaurant sits at around $25 for a main, and $22 for a burger and chips, but with cheaper alternatives like Tapas at around $12 and a mug of coffee at $4, The Brewery Restaurant is as flexible and chill as a lazy Sunday afternoon drive. Do check them out.

Tyrrell’s Hunter Valley

Tyrrell’s are one of the biggest wineries in Australia, let alone the Hunter Valley. They’ve partnered with the Coolangatta estate of the Shoalhaven area, so you might have heard of them before. They have over 150 years of winemaking experience, with many award winning wines.

As much a history tour as it is a wine tasting, this tour offers something special: a firsthand experience of old oak vats and a fully operational red cellar. The original iron bark hut that Edward Tyrrell lived in is still standing, and you’ll be shown the Short Flat Vineyard, the home of Australia’s most awarded wine, Vat 1 Semillon, with vines first planted there in 1923.
